Which media each platform takes

The library shows what your platforms accept

Pick the platforms first, then attach. The media library only offers what every platform you picked can take, because one post goes to each of them and the file has to work everywhere.

Pick YouTube and the images disappear, with a line saying why — YouTube publishes video and has no image post at all. Pick YouTube and Instagram together and you still see only video, because that's what both accept.

This used to let you attach an image to a YouTube post. It would then fail at publish, which is fine at 2pm when you're watching and much less fine at 3am on a scheduled post.

"Design a carousel" follows the same rule, and is switched off with the reason showing when nothing in your selection takes images.

YouTube needs a title

On YouTube the title is a separate field from the caption. It's the video's name — what people see in the feed — capped at 100 characters. Your caption becomes the description under the player.

Give it a real one. A post without a title can't publish.

The limits we enforce

Where a platform's own limit and our publishing partner's differ, the smaller one is what actually binds, and that's what we check against. Facebook allows 63,206 characters; the route we publish through stops at 50,000, so 50,000 is the real limit and that's what you'll be held to.

If you hit a limit that looks lower than the platform's own, that's why.
